Songs to count down by.

Like everyone else at work, I have a tendency to count down the final minutes of my shift, especially during the last half-hour. As the countdown progresses to mere minutes, I tend to wonder what song can help get me through those minutes. If there’s 8 minutes left, I think to myself, “By the time ‘Stairway to Heaven’ finishes playing, I’ll be out of here.” Then I wondered what other songs fill up some of the other time durations, such as 5 minutes or 8 minutes.

So I went through my iTunes library and came up with the following list of songs sorted by their playing times. The song at #20 is 20 minutes long, #19 is 19 minutes, and so on.

1. I’m Gonna Fart On You – The Ass Barnacles
2. All Shook Up – Elvis Presley
3. Cocktails For Two – Spike Jones
4. Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2 – Pink Floyd
5. White Room – Cream
6. New York State Of Mind – Billy Joel
7. You Can’t Always Get What You Want – Rolling Stones
8. Stairway to Heaven – Led Zeppelin
9. Riviera Paradise – Stevie Ray Vaughan
10. I’m Your Captain (Closer to Home) – Grand Funk Railroad
11. In My Time Of Dying – Led Zeppelin
12. Morning Love – Ravi Shankar
13. Alan’s Psychedelic Breakfast: Rise And Shine/Sunny Side Up/Morning Glory – Pink Floyd
14. Do You Feel Like We Do – Peter Frampton
15. International Wind Breaking Contest – TJ Wiseman
16. Jessica (Live) – The Allman Brothers Band
17. In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida – Iron Butterfly
18. Alice’s Restaurant Massacree – Arlo Guthrie
19. Do Your Thing – Isaac Hayes
20. Jam I – Derek & The Dominos (Layla Jam Sessions)

Let me stress that the only reason “I’m Gonna Fart On You” is #1 is because it’s exactly one minute long and not because it’s the single greatest song ever recorded in the history of music. I like the song, though.

This without question the strangest song listing ever assembled.
