Clark rushed into the CEO’s office with a sense of panic.
“Boss, we’re in trouble, BIG trouble,” he panted.
“Why, what’s going on?” the CEO replied, startled at the sudden interruption.
“Our sales are down, WAY down. We might not even make a profit this quarter!”
“But Residence Warehouse is the largest home improvement retailer in the world! How can we not make a profit?”
“Our competition is gaining on us, that’s how. We must do something fast!” Clark replied.
The CEO thought a moment and then pressed a button on his speakerphone to initiate a phone call.
“Weather department,” a voice answered.
“Hi, this is Bruce. Could you give me a Category 3 hurricane and place it on course to Westwall Beach? Make it look like a tropical storm and then have it suddenly reach hurricane strength just before it hits land. Got it?”
“Got it,” the voice confirmed.
The weather department transmitted a signal to a secret satellite in orbit high above the ocean which triggered a tropical wave that soon became a raging hurricane. Terrified residents rushed to the store to stock up on emergency supplies and in turn gave Residence Warehouse a record profit for the quarter.
