Waiting for a home.

Alone and afraid,
Shivering,
And wondering
If this is all there is to life.
Separated from the free world
By windows and iron bars
And their freedom put on hold,
They wait for hope.
The door to the building opens
And hope arrives
In the form of lonely souls
Seeking companionship.
Hearts bond
Souls match
And friendships form
At first sight.
The cages are opened,
And the animals are set free,
Adopted into loving homes.
Now the cats and dogs know
There is more to life
Than waiting for a home.
