Spunk and Bite.

Spunk & Bite: A Writer’s Guide to Punchier, More Engaging Language & Style is an excellent book packed with advice on how to spice up your writing. I checked it out from my county library and had just started reading it when I came across a chapter on ways to expand your vocabulary. I had to do a quick post here containing the links to sites offering free word-of-the-day mailing lists to help you build your vocabulary.

Some of the other topics covered by the book include tips on crafting your sentences efficiently and descriptively, constructing a memorable opening and closing for your story, using a thesaurus and making your story edgy without making it obscene. There’s even a chapter on using the semicolon; its purpose is much clearer now.

Strunk and White’s The Elements of Style set the mold for proper writing. Spunk and Bite helps you break that mold and make your writing livelier and definitely more marketable.
