I depress the gas pedal
And my car carries me
Down the lonely highway
Away from the noisy city
Escaping the last reach
Of the city lights
As I enter the unlit countryside
Untouched by urban sprawl
The smoky air welcomes me
As I ride past the endless fields
Of sugar canes standing in unison
Witnessing my abrupt visit
Then I notice the liberated sky
Decorated with shimmering stars
Twinkling echoes from the past
But at least I am alone now
I switch on the radio
And tune to an oldies station
Its signal is weak
But its will is strong
I admire its efforts to entertain me
Despite the struggle
And so I drive on
Not sure where I’m going
But I enjoy the ride anyway
