Artificial love.

I attracted you with my lies
And my exaggerated manners
That distorted my sincerity
Yet you fell for me
I treated you to dinners
of processed chemicals
And sugar substitutes
Yet you chose to be with no one else
I built our relationship
Using other people’s words
From advice columns and self-help books
Yet I managed to capture your heart
I bought you flowers made from cloth
Jewelry made from synthetic gemstones
And gifts suggested by salespeople
Yet you happily devoured my offerings
And now here we are
Arguing
About my true love in an artificial world
Or is it artificial love in a true world
