I have lived a textbook life
Studying the laws prescribed
To find my niche in the human race
Memorizing countless formulas
Calculating perplexing dillemas
To render myself ready
For aiding the sustenance of society
I pass the final exam
To render my entrance
Into the public realm
To which I only recieve
Quizzical stares and
Silent enquiries
As to my purpose
To which I reply
“I am, therefore I be.”
Then to my bemusement
Heads shake and snickers all around
As a nearby stranger speaks
“Fool, you must be of the textbook life
Outdated five minutes ago.”
