Last week I was chosen to serve on a jury for a criminal case that began this morning. I share my observations of that trial here.
Opening statements were made by both sides and the prosecution called their first witness. Later in the testimony a map of the crime scene was presented and the witness was handed a laser pointer to highlight its key points. However, when my fellow jurors saw the bright red dot, they quickly pounced from their seats and knocked the map down to the floor before shredding it to pieces. Amid the chaos, the judge was heard to mutter, “I knew it was a mistake to have cats on the jury.”
The trial will resume tomorrow once a new jury has been assembled from a jury pool of humans.
