And now for this morning’s weird news. Banks in our area have been receiving visits from two men seeking to cash a check for a gazillion dollars. They seem intent on finding a bank willing to cash such an unusual check but so far have not had any luck. Surveillance cameras show the men to be unarmed although perhaps they may be lacking in some intelligence.
“Can I help you gentlemen?” the teller greeted while trying to keep a straight face.
“Yes,” Matt stepped forward to the teller’s window while producing a check. “I’d like to cash this check, please.”
The teller glanced at the check and nearly lost his composure.
One gazillion dollars.
It’s them.
“We’ve been going all over town trying to find a bank willing to cash my check but we haven’t had any luck,” Matt explained. “Can you do it?”
“Why, of course we can,” the teller replied.
Both Matt and his friend Stephan looked at the teller in surprise. “You can?” Matt asked.
“Just give me a few minutes,” the teller said before disappearing through a nearby door.
“Cool!” Matt sighed in relief. “See that, Stephan? It was worth giving this bank a try.”
“I don’t believe it,” Stephan sighed. “No way is this happening.”
Then the door to the lobby opened and the teller appeared, carrying two large briefcases.
“Here you go,” the teller announced. “One gazillion dollars.”
“Cool!” Matt exclaimed as he picked up one briefcase and began to open it.
“Don’t open that!” exclaimed the teller. “You don’t want everyone to see what you have, do you? Wait until you get home.”
“No, I don’t want everyone seeing what money we have,” Matt agreed before turning to Stephan. “We should’ve stopped by this bank first. Come on Stephan, let’s go home.”
“I don’t have a good feeling about this,” Stephan muttered as he picked up the other briefcase. The teller chuckled to himself as he watched the two men exit the bank.
They’ll be back.
One hour later, Matt and Stephan entered Matt’s apartment and set their briefcases on the dining room table.
“This is it, Stephan,” Matt said. “A life in luxury inside these briefcases. The first thing I’m going to do with the money is buy an expensive sports car, and then you and I are going to Orlando to visit the parks. Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, Seaworld and Busch Gardens. Along the way we’re going to stay at 5-star resorts and eat at fancy restaurants. Get ready to live!”
Stephan smiled weakly.
“On three.”
Matt and Stephan stared at the briefcases as Matt began his count.
“One…two…three!”
Both men threw open their briefcases but their excitement faded as quickly as it began.
“What’s this?” Matt yelled.
Piled inside the briefcases were stacks of play money.
“Stephan,” Matt roared. “We’ve been tricked! Grab your briefcase and let’s go. I have a few choice words for that guy at the bank!”
To be continued…
