The iTunes Top 25.

I have decided to discontinue my weekly feature listing my top 10 most played songs. I don’t think there was ever enough interest in keeping this feature going, so there’s no need to make this blog any more boring than it already is.

I was also having problems with the scrobbling software from that was supposed to pass along songs played on my iPod to my profile page, but it wasn’t working as it should, not even after my attempts to troubleshoot and resolve the problem. So I ended up uninstalling the scrobbling software and won’t go near again.

I do would like to present you with one more top song list, this one from iTunes. I’ve been using it as my main music player for years and it’s been quietly keeping track of which songs I listen to the most. In fact, there’s a separate playlist for my 25 most played songs of all time, which is presented here. This is truly a definitive list of some of my all time favorite songs, presented one last time at the risk of making this blog dreadfully boring.

Earache, my iTunes.

I had recently updated my installation of iTunes to the latest version when I got this message when trying to launch it:

iTunes was not installed properly. Please re-install iTunes. (Error 7).

So I did a total uninstall using Revo Uninstaller, rebooted and tried installing iTunes again only to get the same message as before. So I looked up this error message online and I was taken to this page that had me double check my Microsoft .NET installations for errors, so I did and found no problems there. But iTunes still wouldn’t run.

By this time I was fed up with iTunes and decided to leave it uninstalled but from that point on, I would see this error message when starting up my computer:

APSDaemon.exe system error
ICUDT49.DLL is missing

Another search took me to this page that had the solution to the problem. Basically I had to remove everything from Apple from my Add/Remove Programs list and delete their folders under Program Files and Common Files. Again I used Revo Uninstaller to accomplish this since it’s able to remove leftover traces of these programs from the registry and hard drive. Afterwards I used CCleaner to do a quick clean of the registry, rebooted and was able to re-install iTunes without errors. Once again it’s working and I’m back in business with my 100GB music library completely intact.

What a mess.
