Call me curious.
I was at the city library recently looking for a book to read when I came across a book entitled Moby-Duck: The True Story of 28,800 Bath Toys Lost at Sea & of the Beachcombers, Oceanographers, Environmentalists & Fools Including the Author Who Went in Search of Them. Talk about an eye-catching title.
This is one of the most interesting books I’ve ever read. It chronicles the author’s journey to find some missing toy ducks that washed overboard from an ocean freighter transporting them from a factory in China. His journey takes him nearly all over the world, where he visits beaches in Alaska, tours toy factories in China and joins a scientific expedition to the Arctic Circle.
The author also discusses in detail topics such as pollution contaminating our oceans, global warming and the hazards of freight shipping. They’re definitely challenges facing us today and overcoming them won’t be easy. But the book does leave me with a deeper appreciation for the sea and the life that depends on it.
